The response system is part of the US Army MARS radio system, as well as a designated STAR Unit in the National Communications System's SHARES (SHAred RESources) program.
The system is currently 95% complete (a unit such as this is never finished!). The unit is capable of participating in up to four HF nets simultaneously in the commonly-utilized voice and digital modes (SSB/RTTY/PACTOR/AMTOR and the various sound-card modes). A suite of VHF and UHF radios (low-band, high-band, UHF, 800 MHz) permits coordination with MARS, amateur radio and local public safety and military units. The trailer is provisioned for 72 hours of independent operation on generator power.
