General Radio Information

Introduction to HF Radio (Harris Corporation) - Volume 1 (HF Technology)

Introduction to HF Radio (Harris Corporation) - Volume 2 (VHF/UHF/Satcomm Technology)

Webmaster's Note - Hats off to Harris for making these primers available. Excellent intro, especially on HF ALE and UHF satcomm technology. Their radios rock, too, if you can afford them!

USMC Radio Operator's Handbook (A good general intro to radio. Lots of practical tips for field operations, as you would expect. The USMC never lost their HF radio skills, in spite of the advent of TACSAT.)

Intro to Troposcatter (AKA, TM 11-5895-459-14)
AN/TRC-170 Troposcatter Terminal Student Handout
AN/TRC-170v5 Troposcatter Terminal Slides

Transmission Loss Predication for Tropo Circuits Volume 1 Volume 2

HF Radio Training Course

Webmaster's Note - This was a course which I put together to teach a 2-day long course in HF Radio Operations at the 311th Theater Signal Command, Ft. G. G. Meade MD. It was used in conjunction with a Harris interactive instruction CD-ROM and some AN/PRC-150 HF radios.

Training Frequency Matrix

Army MARS utilizes a frequency designator matrix to promote operational security. This training matrix can be used in place of the official matrix, removing the necessity of making training material "For Official Use Only" and enabling us to place it in the World Wide Web. Training channel designators all start with the letter "T" for HF channels and "V" for VHF channels, making them distinguishable from actual designators.
